Okay guys ive had this problem for about 4 months now due to school.
My 2007 Mazda 3 one day in the winter died and didnt seem to start, made sounds and steering wheel was all stuck. I went to the mechanic and it died there, it been sitting there for 4 month as i had no money to fix it and now finally off school, ive gotten the time to make money and fix it.

i was wondering if you guys would happen to know what the problem is? is it the alternator or the battery? also if it is either of them i couldnt seem to understand why this might've happen.

im trying to look for parts and there a 2006 Mazda 3 being parted out and i was wondering if it would fit my 2007 mazda 3? im not sure about it but i would love some help :smile2: anything would help really!

Thank you guys!!

Hey, sorry about the little info but when i jump start my car, it starts working perfectly fine, but if i turn it off, it doesnt turn back on nor does the battery charge. i left it to charge by letting current from one car to my car through jumper cables for 15 mintues but i got the same results: it didnt start. I dont know what it might be the battery or the alternator because if it is the alternator then its just going to use up my battery to provide power instead or charge it. again i dont know how to take the initiative in diagnosing this problem, because im afraid that it might be both. if you think it is the battery then i will change it myself and if you guys think it is the alternator then i will have to deal with it with the mechanics. also appreciate the help!!

First, measure your battery voltage with the car off, a fully charged car battery should read around 12.5 volts. If its lower then the battery either needs to be charged or its bad. If its bad then no amount of charging will make it able to start your car. Next, get it started, disconnect the jumper cables, then measure the voltage at the battery. Typically it should be 13.8-14.2 volts. If its lower or the car immediately shuts off when the jumper cables are disconnected then the battery isn't charging. The alternator might be the cause but there are other possibilities.

Yep, Oreilly, Advanced, and Autozone can test your battery, with car running (actually it has to be running), and that will tell you what's wrong.
You can't properly test a battery with the car running. No way, no how.
